"What a fun story! I really liked Zoe's teen voice. I also thoroughly enjoyed watching two insanely hot guys fight over her. (Isn't that every girl's dream?) But what I enjoyed most about this story was watching all the beings in the world being revealed. There are so many different creatures involved, each one with their own magic system. I waited on my front steps for Shay. I didn't want to introduce him to my parents. That was just too complicated. After checking my clothes again, I felt for my necklace, a silver chain with an inlaid teardrop tanzanite stone, surrounded by diamond studded wings. My grandma had given it to me on my sixteenth birthday, and I'd thought it was appropriate for tonight. I re-checked the front of my baby pink cashmere sweater. It matched my black--in honor of Shay--Miss Me jeans. I'd had to dig around my closet to find shoes, since my Converses just weren't going to cut it, and settled on a pair of sparkly black kitten heels.
At seven, Shay turned onto the cul-de-sac in a shiny black car: a 1957 Chevy Bel Air with those unmistakable fins. I knew it well, due to dad's fascination with classic vehicles. He pulled into the driveway, hopped out, and strode up to the porch.
I waved, suddenly shy and looked away.
About the Author
Kristin D. Van Risseghem grew up in a small river town in Minnesota with her parents and older sister. And after receiving a double Bachelor of Science degree from Winona State University in Paralegal and Corrections, she worked as a Paralegal for various law firms around the Twin Cities for 14 years. Then she left the legal field and is now a Senior Buyer for a technology company. Currently, Kristin lives in Eagan with her husband and two Calico cats. She also loves attending book clubs, going shopping, and hanging out with friends. She has come to realize that she absolutely has an addiction to purses and shoes. They are her weakness and probably has way too many of both. In the summer months, Kristin can usually be found lounging on her boat, drinking an ice cold something. Being an avid reader of YA and Women’s Literature stories, she still finds time to read a ton of books in-between writing. And in the winter months, her main goal is to stay warm from the Minnesota cold! Kristin’s first book, The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos, is published in by Kasian Publishing.

The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos

The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos is a fast paced fantasy complete with captivating characters, thrilling action, and a blossoming romance.
Zoe is an average teenage girl. She's into friends and boys, but when she and her best friend, Kieran are attacked by unusual creatures she soon learns she's anything but average. Zoe also discovers Kieran isn't the person she believed him to be. In fact, he's an angel sent to protect Zoe since birth and the new guy, Shay, she's been crushing on is a half-angel on the same mission as Kieran. With her head reeling, Zoe isn't sure what to think, but when she's attacked again and her friend, Sidelle (who happens to be a fairy) rescues her she begins to believe Kieran's story. However, learning she is the chosen one who will fulfill the prophecy in a battle of good versus evil is a little too much for Zoe to grasp. She'd rather just spend time getting to know Shay and forget saving the world, but her protectors have sworn their lives to keep her safe and she knows she can't let them down. Will Zoe accept her role and unite the Enlightens in battle before it costs her everyone she loves?
The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos is an enthralling young adult read. The characters are rich and appealing and the plot is unique and well told. The budding romance along with the catty high school girls who torment Zoe help add believeability to the story. I, as I'm sure many parents will too, liked how the author kept Zoe and Shay's relationship innocent with much of the book's focus being on Zoe's inner struggles of doing what's right. All in all I found this to be well rounded story that kept me glued to the pages.
I highly recommend picking up a copy.

Great Read!

The earth told them of her birth.
Zoe, your typical teenage girl, is thrown into a battle of good and evil. Everyone believes she’ll be the savior of the world as we know it. To further complicate matters, she learns that her lifelong best friend, Kieran, is actually her guardian angel. With demons hunting her every move, she has to rely on others to keep her safe.
But when she meets Shay, a nephilim, she is instantly smitten. From the second she laid eyes on him, it was hard to think of anything else. His brilliant wings, muscular physique, and electrical touch are irresistible. Luckily, she gets to spend lots of time with her new beau, as he’s assigned to guard her too.
Between Kieran’s attraction to her, her budding new romance with Shay, and the whole battling evil thing, “Life is complicated all of the sudden.”
All the while still dealing with typical teenage stuff like homework and hormones. Not to mention The Triangles, a group of snobby girls who serve better as bullies than Barbies.
Zoe eventually finds that she has extraordinary powers too, but an Ordinary shouldn’t have those abilities. Maybe she isn’t as average as she once imagined?
I loved this book. The characters were well developed, and the pace was fantastic. I was sad when I got to the last page. I’ll definitely be reading Kristin’s next books. Fans of Lauren Kate’s FALLEN series will also enjoy this.

What really stood out to this reviewer was how fast the action turned up in the story. Within a few pages the reader is introduced to three of
the main characters, is thrown into a high-octane, life or death situation, and introduces a heated new romance. The characters themselves, mainly
the protagonist Zoe, shows a tremendous amount of character growth through the novel. She goes from a naive, love-struck teenage girl to a
strong, powerful woman, and through the story's plot she more than proves herself worthy of being this series protagonist. The sheer volume of
mythology showcased in this first book is amazing, and the vast amount of different supernatural entities in this series is sure to remind a lot
of readers of the Shadowhunter sage written by the incredible Cassandra Clare.
Overall, this is a phenomenal first entry in the Enlighten series by Kristin D. Van Risseghem. It maintains the quality writing the YA genre has
come to know and love over the last few years, and the abundance of creativity is felt in every sentence by the author. It's filled with commonplace
teenage drama, while incorporating the supernatural realm in a very real and natural way. This is a must read for YA fans out there, so be sure
